Power of a Word

"Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed." Luke 7:7
A word has the power to hurt or heal a person. A word has the power to discourage or encourage a person.

The centurion in this passage, as a military man has a perfect and clear understanding that just a word from Jesus could heal his servant.

With words military officers order or command soldiers under their authority. For instance, if an officer tells a soldier under him, ‘Go,’ or ‘Come,’ the soldier has no choice but to obey.

With words we can speak wellness to people. The Bible says,
"Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings." Isaiah 3:10
Have you taken time to monitor the kinds of words you love using? Try to capture the kinds of words you use daily in your notebook. You will amazingly discover how negative or positive your words have been. You are negative if you always say:

1. I can't
2. I won't be able
3. I'm sick
4. I'm tired
5. I'm afraid

Many people find it difficult to capture their words. But if they allow someone close to them capture their words for them, they will know whether their words are negative or positive. Why must we be mindful of our words or what we say? It is because:

1. With our words we speak to God.
"Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God."
Job 13:3

2. With our words we motivate people not to be fearful.
"Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you." Isaiah 35:4

3. With our words we call forth things into existence or what belongs to us!
"I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;" Isaiah 43:6

4. With our words we speak or prophesy to situations!
"Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live." Ezekiel 37:9

5. With our words we attract life or death!
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Proverbs 18:21
I decree and declare that you will use your words effectively in Jesus mighty name.

Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
