"But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." John 5:17
The value of work is ably validated by the fact that God is a Worker, and His Son Jesus Christ is also a Worker! Work is one of the precious gifts from God to man. Adam was given the work of taking care of the Garden of Eden. Father Abraham was a great worker even in his old age. Isaac was a tenacious worker. With all the attacks on him and his men, they kept working without tiredness. Beloved Reader, your fulfilment as a man is anchored on work. As children of God, we must place value on work, and engage in productive work with all our strength and vitality. Not working is an abuse of God and destiny. Go and work! Get employed!
Do you know that you are meant to co-labour with God?
"For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building." 1 Corinthians 3:9
God gives us the capacity to labour or work to bring out the treasures of the earth for our good. Whatever we are enjoying today is a function of work.
To do your work wholeheartedly, you need motivation. Let's consider 3 ways to be motivated:
1. Work for the Lord!
"With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free." Ephesians 6:7-8
Be motivated because God does not owe any man! As a child of God, you will be intrinsically motivated when you do your job or work as unto the Lord, not unto man! Whatever work you are doing that will bring honour and glory to God is good work which must be done with enthusiasm. You are enjoined to do your work with might! The Bible says, "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." Ecclesiastes 9:10
2. Profit in your work!
"In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury." Proverbs 14:23
Be motivated because there is a benefit or advantage in your work. Be motivated because you are not working or labouring in vain.
"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Corinthians 15:58
3. Reward for your work!
"Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his reward according to his labour." 1 Corinthians 3:8
Be motivated because there is a reward for all your work. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good work we do.
"And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be." Revelation 22:12
Prayer:
I decree and declare that you will not work in vain. Rather, you shall be superlatively rewarded in Jesus' mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
