Living a Focus - based life
"... Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver. And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it." 1 Kings 20:39-40
In this passage, the servant's major assignment or priority here was to watch over the man under his care. But he was distracted, being busy here and there! And the man vanished into thin air. The importance of living a Focus - based life cannot be overemphasised!
What is focus?
Focus is about concentrating on or giving special attention to one particular assignment, one thing, agenda or purpose at a time. Apostle Paul was a man of "one thing"! He said, Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before," Philippians 3:13
With focus you can achieve greater results; you can make appreciable impact. It is fatal to loose focus. As we can see from the passage under review, the servant endangered his life when he chose to be "busy here and there"!
Let's consider some Benefits of Focus - based living:
1. Goal orientations
Focus helps us to be goal oriented! We make progress faster as we pursue one goal at a time. You can't chase two rats at the same time. If you do both will escape from you! That is native intelligence about goal orientation for you! A goal oriented person will not give in to distractions. As we all know that there is no shortage of distractions these days!
2. Time management
Focus - based living helps us in time management! With focus, you will know what's important to spend your time on. For instance, if you require two or three hours of uninterrupted time with God or family, you will have to turn off your phone or any gadget that will rob you of your time. I'm amazed at how much people denigrate God while in church. If you are in church to worship God, then focus on Him alone. Let nobody or anything distract you from God.
3. Prioritization
Focus helps us to prioritise the most important things of life. As we can't be everything or everywhere at the same time. We can't do every job at same time. Are you stuck in a job or career that you don't enjoy? Why not re-focus your energy on something else? Try to focus on developing a new area of brilliance. To avoid drifting away from your focus, learn to always ask yourself: "Am I in pursuit of my agenda? Am I majoring in my majors or minors? Am I willing to say NO to other things and concentrate on my majors? Also remind yourself of the negative consequences if you don't focus on your priority. If the servant in the passage under review, had considered the repercussions or consequences of his being "busy here and there" he would have been more focused on the assignment.
I decree and declare that you will not
allow anything or anybody dissuade or distract you from your focus - based living this year in Jesus mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
