Power to Contend with Enemies

"Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle." Deut. 2:24

We need power to possess our promised land! We need power to possess our possessions! Without power we will not be able to contend with our enemies in battle.

The truth is that the battle of life is not a question of "if" but the question of "when"! In Deuteronomy 20, God says,

"when thou goest out to battle against thine enemies..." not "if thou goest out to battle against thine enemies..." This underscores the certainty of battles of life! It takes the battle axe of Lord to contend with enemies effectively. The Bible says, "Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;" Jeremiah 51:20

Let's consider 3 truths that will help us become effective in our battles:

1. Covenant child of God!

Like David, every covenant of God is empowered to contend with enemy forces. Are you a child of God? If yes, then you are God's battle axe and weapon of war! Do you know that David was God's battle axe against Goliath? David could not have defeated Goliath by his own power. No! It was the power of God that enabled him to kill his enemy. You too need the power of God to be at work in and through you always in order to be a David to any Goliath.

2. The battle is the Lord's!

To be effective as the Lord's battle axe, you must know and understand that the battle belongs to God. It's not your battle. David's understanding of this truth gave him an edge over others who came to battle Goliath. The Bible says,

"And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands."1 Samuel 17:47

3. A good soldier of Jesus Christ!

Apostle Paul said,

"Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 2 Timothy 2:3-4

No military personnel gets entangled in matters of everyday life, otherwise he will not please the one who recruited him. To be a good battle axe, you must have undivided attention to your duty call and to your commander in chief or general officer Commanding.

I do believe that it was David's "Commander" that told him to use stone as against arrows or spears. Don't forget the weapons of your warfare are not carnal but mighty through God! Victory awaits you as you take instructions from the Lord in all battles of life.

I decree and declare that you will engage the power available to you so that no enemy will be too hard for you to handle in Jesus mighty name!

Yours sincerely,

Joe Jesimiel Ogbe.
