Knowing the Will of God

"Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness." Psalms 143:10
As children of God, we are meant to know and do His will. Prayer to know the will of God is key to our spiritual fervency and relevance.

Basically, there are two types of the will of God! One is the "secret will" of God, and the other is the "revealed will" of God. The Bible says,

"The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law." Deuteronomy 29:29

It is crucial to know the difference between the two. The "Secret will" of God has to do with the veiled plans and purpose of God as a sovereign King. God has sovereign control of all things. God's sovereign will cannot be broken. It always comes to pass.

Nobody can question or alter His sovereign will. The Bible says,
"And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? Daniel 4:35

Do you know that not even His Son, Jesus Christ could change His sovereign will? "Saying,
Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done."Luke 22:42

The Word of God is the "Revealed will" of God. As such, knowing the Word, is about knowing His Revealed Will. And doing His Word is also about doing His Revealed Will. But any "Will" that is not stated clearly or expressly in the Bible can be accessed via the Holy Spirit who searches the deep things of God. For instance, who to marry or what career to pursue is not stated clearly in scriptures, hence you are expected to depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance.

Let's consider 3 examples of some revealed will of God:
1. Sanctification!
"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:"1 Thessalonians 4:3
Sanctification is a revealed will of God. Doing the will of God in this context is to abstain from sexual immorality in order to embrace holiness and sexual purity.

2. Thanksgiving in everything!
"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."1 Thessalonians 5:18
It is the revealed will of God for us to be thankful in all circumstances or situations.

3. Suffering for doing good!
"For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing." 1 Peter 3:17
It is the will of God for us to suffer for doing good rather than to suffer for doing wrong!
I decree and declare that you will know and do God's will always in Jesus mighty name.
Yours sincerely,
