How to Obtain God's Mercy
"Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful." Psalms 116:5
Mercy is an attribute of God!
God is intrinsically merciful!
No wonder, we are enjoined to be merciful like God!
"Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful."Luke 6:36
What is mercy?
Mercy is an act of compassion, kindness or forgiveness shown towards someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm.
In Genesis 39:21, the Bible tells us that the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. God Almighty gives us mercy in the sight of men. If He does not show us mercy, no man will show us mercy.
Until God empowers and enables man to show you mercy, man will never show mercy. The Bible says,
"And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land."Jeremiah 42:12
Joseph was merciful to his brothers because he was empowered by a merciful God! Rather than exacting justice, he comforted his brothers and treated them with great mercy!
Let's consider 3 ways of obtaining mercy:
1. Fear God!
"For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him." Psalms 103:11
2. Call upon God!
"For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee." Psalms 86:5
3. Sow seeds of mercy!
"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy." Matthew 5:7
I decree and declare that you will obtain and enjoy mercy always in Jesus mighty name.
