Church studies measures to reduce crowds of the faithful and prevent new cases of contamination.

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni confirmed on Friday (06) the first case of the new coronavirus in the city where Pope Francis resides. The infected, who did not have his identity revealed, participated in a technology conference between February 26 and 27 in the country.

In a note, the Catholic Church Department said that all participants received an alert about the case. “One of the participants in the events from 26 to 27 February showed a positive result in the Covid-19 test. As he considers that, at the moment, other possibilities [of cases] should not be excluded, he informed all participants of the events by e-mail, according to the criteria and safety standards ”.

Matteo Bruni said that after alerting Italy activated the health protocols to prevent new cases of contamination, mainly in the former monastery Mater Ecclesiae and in Casa Santa Marta, where Pope Francis and Benedict XVI live.

Since last week, the agenda of the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has been canceled due to a cold. The ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the church is studying making the Angelus de Francisco next Sunday (08) via video, to reduce crowds of the faithful in St. Peter's Square.
