Steps To Becoming Very Great

"And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him."

Genesis 26:13-14

In this passage under review, we see Isaac becoming very great. He became very wealthy and extremely distinguished; having been blessed by God with flocks, herds and servants. It is not a big deal with God to make us great.

Our God has the capacity and capability to make a "somebody" out of a "nobody"! Only God can make great! As David said in 1 Chronicles 29:12:

"Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all."

Who is a great person?

In our context, a great person is a man or woman of great means or great possessions. In describing the greatness of Isaac, the Bible says,

"he became very great: For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants..."

A great person is also a man or woman of great ability, quality, capacity, influence and prominence.

Let's consider 3 Steps to becoming very great:

1. Become a covenant child of God!

Greatness is the inheritance of all covenant children of God. Have you become a covenant child of God via Jesus Christ? Then you possess the gene or DNA of greatness! No covenant child of God is designed for ordinary life. As all our progenitors in the scriptures were great and mighty. Concerning Abraham, the Bible says,

"Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?" (Genesis 18:18)

2. Accept Responsibility

Some people think that they can become great doing nothing! No! Greatness comes by acceptance of responsibility. Our fathers of faith accepted responsibility for their greatness! Joshua told the children of Joseph to embrace responsibility by going up to the mountain to cut down trees and make room for themselves. The Bible says,

"... get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself ..." (Joshua 17:15)

Enlargement belongs to those who accept responsibility for their enlargement.

3. Embrace a lifestyle of Diligence!

Greatness is not a gift! Greatness is hard work! Don't wait for greatness, work toward it! Desire it and go for it!

Isaac as a covenant child of God embraced diligence. He planted and watered his crops. He was not a lazy covenant child of God! Greatness is in levels! God designed us to grow from one phase or level of greatness to another. The Bible says that Isaac

"... grew until he became very great."

The Bible says, "And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him." (2 Samuel 5:10)

It takes a lifestyle of Diligence to become great in life. The diligent Mordecai became very great in the King's palace. And the Bible says that,

"... this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater." (Esther 9:4)

God's ultimate desire is that everyone of us should attain our full potential of greatness. Are you ready?

I decree and declare that you will become great and mighty in your generation in Jesus mighty name!

Yours sincerely,
